Before we bought our Intex EasySet Pool, let me start by saying, I was totally against buying an above ground pool.
A friend had given us an old one a couple of years earlier and it did not go well. It was stored improperly (see here on how to take down and store your Intex EasySet Pool) and we just couldn’t keep it clean. Don’t get me wrong.. our girls loved it but it was a maintenance nightmare.
So, despite our previous experience with the EasySet pool, I decided to surprise our kids and buy a new one. (here’s what I bought – if you’re trying to surprise your kids, beware – the box has a big picture of the pool on the side!)
I had no idea how to maintain this pool even with a years worth of prior experience.
We tried EVERYTHING…
I bought a chlorine kit, a bunch of Chlorine, pH, etc.. the whole nine yards.
It was very hard keeping our pool clean. It was frustrating and took a lot of time.
My kids loved it! But, it was a major pain for me.
The next year, trying to simplify and figure out how to keep the water clean, I bought a salt-water system (this one).
So, simplifying actually added another pump to the EasySet pool setup. Now I had 2 pumps. Also, I had to add bags of salt to the pool.
The plus side – no chlorine. The bad – tons of salt, which is cheap, but another pump to maintain. The water didn’t stay very clean either!
The salt-water pump worked for about a week at a time and then I’d get an error on the pump’s display. I had to take it apart and soak the components in vinegar. Yet another thing to do and maintain!
I even tried using pool shock to help… it didn’t.
The Simple Easy Approach That Works
Year three I decided to go back to the basics. I removed the Intex salt water system. Said goodbye to the salt water system completely.
My goal was clean water and to keep everything as simple as possible.
I tried many things and found the secret to keeping an Intex EasySet Pool crystal clear all year long. (see below for the link to the one I bought)
The first thing was I upgraded my filter pump. It was cheap and made a major difference in keep the debris out of the pool.
Ultimately, I tried these Chlorine tablets – I LOVE THEM!. No liquid chlorine, pH, shock, etc. JUST CHLORINE TABLETS.
They worked perfectly and still do! For my pool I check the chlorine floater once a week and make sure I always have 2 full tablets in at a time.
I also would check the filter weekly. I clean it with a garden hose and reuse it as much as possible. I’ll replace it if it can’t be cleaned thoroughly.
We use a net to remove any surface debris and run the pump every night.
Our water is always crystal clear now and it’s super easy to maintain. Takes almost zero time. And again, my girls still love it!
